About Climate Tech

Climate tech encompasses all areas of technology required to respond to climate change, the biggest and most urgent task in human history.

All activities for human survival and convenient life emit greenhouse gases. As a result, climate change has become visible, and in order to solve it, the entire industrial system in which human civilization is standing is required to change.

All industries, without any exception, need to take action in response. In parallel with the decarbonization of existing energy, manufacturing, agrifood, and transportation systems, capital markets will also have to be reorganized by the ‘carbon economy’ principle. Market opportunities to address climate change are as massive as the problem itself and are being created in a very urgent matter.

In order to ensure the sustainability of mankind and the global environment, much more diverse technologies need to be adopted more rapidly, and cross-disciplinary collaboration is required. This requires a fostering of many more researchers and scientists who recognize climate change as a significant problem and opportunity to be addressed immediately.

Course

  • • Through this lecture on 'Climate Tech and Startups', students will be introduced to which innovative technologies will play an important role in this huge market responding to climate change, what kind of startups are coming up based on those technologies, and how the capital markets support their growth. Founders/CEOs who have founded startups globally and raised capital globally (including Korea) will share their real world experiences and cases.
  • • This course is mainly open to KAIST graduate students (master, Ph.D), in which they can apply through the 2022 fall semester course registration.
  • • Undergraduate students at KAIST and undergraduate/graduate students from other institutions, prospective founders and relevant tech researchers can apply to enroll through separate applications. Applications may be restricted due to capacity.
  • • Two-hour online lectures are held every other week, and global case presentations are conducted in English.
